1920 - Founded by Md. Hanif as a raw hide and skin trading center in Bihar a state in Eastern part of India. |

1930 - Sets the opening of the second trading center. |

1940 - Expansion countries with the opening of another trading center. |

1958 - In this year Maqubul Alam, the able son of Md. Hanif who was born in 1938, joined his father’s growing business soon after completing graduation. |

1960 - Commenced export of dry salted Goat Skins to various European countries. |

1970 - Shifted focus to Calcutta in view of the ports city’s location and infra-structural advantages. His in depth knowledge of the European markets, which by then he had toured extensively, found him diversifying his product lines to include Wet Blue Leather and later Crust and Finished Leathers.
At present he oversees Raw Hide & Skin purchase and the Finance of the group.
First tannery starts production exporting assorted variety of leathers to GERMANY, USSR, POLAND, ITALY, SWEDEN, SPAIN, AUSTRALIA, CZECHOSLOVAKIA and others countries. |

1982 - The year in which Mahmud Alam the eldest of next generation, got wholly involved with the family business after graduation from St. Xavier’s College. He was already quite involved in the Tannery through his college days. He learnt the leather trade from his father. It was under Mahmud Alam that company took its first step towards expansion and modernization which today sees a group that is growing at a rapid pace to greater heights with the introduction of various new lines of business and effective systems of new age. |

1985 - Modernization process of the tannery started. |

1986 - In this year Afroz Alam got included into the family business. After a comprehensive training in various departments under the tutelage of his father Maqubul Alam and elder brother Mahmud Alam, he settled down to look after all administration related affairs of the groups. |

1987 - First upholstery unit set up to manufacturing Sofa and Chair Covers which began the foray into the European market. |

1991 - Aftab came into the business after completing his education in this year. He is the youngest member of the Core Managerial Group. He worked very closely with his elder brother Mahmud Alam who put him through our extensive training programme. After gaining adequate experience at all production units of the group in sales and marketing, he was given charge of Alexim Bags & Apparels, the leather goods division of the company which was made into a separate entity in 1993. |

1996 - Second Upholstery unit set up to meet growing demand for sewn leather sofa & chair. |

1997 - Supported the government in its move to shift the tanneries to a new leather complex having its own effluent treatment plant. |

2000 - New tannery with latest technologies being set up at Calcutta Leather Complex over an area of 20,000 sq.mt. |

2002 - New Tannery with a capacity of 3 Million SQFT per month nears completion. |

2005 - Alexim bags & apparels merged with Alam Tannery. |
